How to Change the Bed on a Chevy
- 1). Open the gas door. Unbolt the gas filler neck from the bedside with the 1/4-inch ratchet and a Torx-head socket. Push the gas filler neck into the bedside. Unbolt the ground strap bolt on the side of the frame connected to the gas filler neck with the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket.
- 2). Look underneath the rear bumper. Locate the gray plastic wiring block clipped to the bottom of the bed. Disconnect the plug leading to the wiring harness that runs up the frame with your hands.
- 3). Unbolt the bottom of the bed from the frame with the 1/2-inch ratchet, extension and socket. Assemble your assistants and arrange them so one is on each corner of the bed. Lift the bed up off of the frame on the truck and move it straight back off of the frame. Set it down in a safe area.
- 4). Lift the replacement bed up with one of your assistants on each corner and lift it carefully over to the frame. Lower it gently onto the frame. Bolt the bed in place with the 1/2-inch ratchet, extension and socket.
- 5). Bolt the gas filler neck to the bedside with the 1/4-inch ratchet and a Torx-head socket. Plug the wiring harness on the frame into the wiring harness block on the underside of the bed with your hands. Verify that the brake lights work by stepping on the brake pedal.
