How to Clean Foam Pillows
- 1). Wash loose foam filled pillows in the washer with a mild detergent. Add fabric softener to provide a clean scent if desired. Remove the pillow from the washer and dry in the dryer set on low heat. Add a several tennis balls or a clean sneaker to the dryer to fluff the pillow as it dries. Monitor the pillow carefully and avoid over drying.
- 2). Launder solid foam pillows by hand. Fill the sink with warm soapy water and submerge the pillow. Work the soap and water into the pillow by rubbing gently. Drain and rinse with cool water. Gently squeeze the water from the pillow, avoiding wringing.Hang on an outside clothesline if possible. A sunny day with a brisk wind is ideal as the sun will warm the pillow and the wind will evaporate the excess moisture. Check the pillow to see that it is completely dry before using. Damp pillows will mildew quickly in warm weather and the pillow will be ruined.
- 3). Machine launder solid foam pillows in cold water on the delicate cycle. If the pillow does not have a protective cover, it is best to leave the pillow case on the pillow. Pin the case closed with large safety pins to prevent the pillow from tearing or fraying in the washer. Remove promptly and hang on the line or lie flat to dry. Spot clean foam pillows with a damp sponge and a mild detergent. Scrub the soiled area and rinse away residue with cool water. Place the pillow in a well ventilated area to dry.
