How to Get Rid of a Pet Urine Odor & Residue
- 1). Press several paper towels over the soaked area. Pick up as much of the liquid as you can. If your floor is carpeted, place something heavy, such as a brick, over the spot to help speed up the absorption. If your floor is wooden or concrete, simply wiping with the towels will pick up a majority of the urine.
- 2). Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of water in a bucket. Or, if using baking soda, simply fill the bucket with 3 or 4 inches of water.
- 3). Sponge the vinegar mix over the stained area. If using baking soda, sprinkle it over the urine spot undiluted, let it soak into the carpet for five minutes, then sponge water over the area. If your floor is wooden, apply water immediately after sprinkling on the baking soda.
- 4). Place a layer of clean paper towels over the wet area, no matter which cleaning method you used, and allow it to dry for several hours.
- 5). Remove the dried paper towels and run your vacuum over the area. If your floor is not carpeted, your job is done once the spot has dried; no vacuuming is required.
