Eliminating a Musty Odor From Silver

    • 1). Fill a plastic tub with about 2 cups of baking soda. Put the silver items into the tub, put the lid on the tub and let the silver sit for about one hour. Baking soda will absorb the musty odor. After soaking the items, rinse them and dry them with a clean rag or kitchen towel.

    • 2). Mix a baking soda paste, if the method in Step 1 was not effective. In a bowl, combine about one part of water to three parts of baking soda to create a paste. Dip a cleaning rag into the paste and wipe down the silver. Rinse the silver and dry it thoroughly.

    • 3). Use white vinegar if the baking soda methods failed to fully remove the musty odor. Dip a cleaning rag into white vinegar and wipe down the silver. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer, and it will cause no damage to your silver items. Rinse the silver and dry it.
