Dark Circle Under Eyes in Children
- Children develop dark circles due to swollen tissues caused by food allergies. Wheat, milk products, beef, and eggs can trigger the collection of body fluids in many places--not just the eyes.
- Sinus problems such as inflammation or infection can cause blood to gather in the eye area. Notice if your child has headaches, pressure in the sinus areas, or a runny nose.
- Have your child gently press a cold washcloth to dark circles, alternating with warm water, to temporarily reduce circles. Alternate hot and cold stimulates circulation around the eyes, so excessive fluids and blood will be carried away.
- If a child is under extreme stress, his body may hold fluids in excess. Hormonal changes can cause salt and water retention all over the body, which leads to dark circles.
- Almost any individual can develop dark circles because of stress related to sleep deprivation. Help your child go to bed on time and awaken at a specific time just to make sure it's not from lack of sleep.
