Solar power.
An ingenious way to harness and use energy.
Before, solar energy was generated from unattractive square looking solar panels.
They were often an eyesore and were generally placed somewhere out of sight.
Now, this innovation has become a little more imaginative and eye-catching with the introduction of what are called solar trees.
A solar tree by name is self explanatory, It comprises of several solar panels which develop into the form of a tree by way of poles and or pillars and is now an attractive method of generating renewable energy.
We have all heard the phrase money doesn't grow on trees, but this nature inspired concept has now given a credible meaning to the phrase.
Solar trees are not a new idea though and the first of these trees have long been in use since their official 2007 release in Vienna.
The idea of the tree itself was created by a British designer, Ross Lovegrove.
Since their first public launch, they can now be seen in popular places like Milan's Piazza della Scala and Paris's Champs Elysees.
The trees can be made in variety of designs and shapes that compliment its surroundings and many designs are modelled from a vast array of flowers and trees which bring a modern but functional edge.
They are a gorgeous example of a marriage between form and function.
Often, such concepts remain just that - concepts but the design has been through real-world testing and were successful and popular.
There are designs for street lamps that can save a lot of energy and money.
Many of the trees contain rechargeable batteries which throughout the day energy is stored and are switched on and off at specific times.
As opposed to typical streetlights, these do not need expensive underground wiring to fit and additionally they are immune to blackouts.
Also In comparison they produce a good deal less light pollution.
The charge that comes from a single solar street tree is powerful enough to power a typical streetlight for four days, this is especially good because cloudy and polluted cities can benefit a lot from them.
Local authorities will save money in the long term with the introduction of these trees on some of their streets and motorways.
The creator and many of its admires hope that in the future these trees will become more recognized and introduced throughout Europe.
Ross Lovegrove is now working on other everyday necessities which can benefit from renewable energy.
