- 1). Step on, vacuum or sweep up centipedes as you see them. According to the University of Nebraska, this is the safest and most environmentally friendly method of controlling centipedes.
- 2). Clean and dry moist rooms within the house or business. Centipedes prefer to live in damp areas, such as basements, closets and bathrooms, according to the Iowa State University Department of Entomology. Maintaining this practice should encourage centipedes to move elsewhere.
- 3). Remove dead vegetation and mulch from around the outside perimeter of the house. Decaying organic matter can provide a damp home for centipedes.
- 4). Apply insecticide, in accordance with package directions, inside the house or business around crawl spaces, dark basement corners, concrete openings and storage containers. Apply insecticide around the outside perimeter.
