How do I Replace a Ballast Ground?
- 1). Unplug the fixture from the electrical outlet or turn off the breaker for the room at the circuit panel.
- 2). Remove the nuts that are used to secure the cover for the ballast compartment with a nut driver. Pull the cover off if a nut is not used. Take the ballast cover off and set it aside. This exposes the internal wiring for the fixture.
- 3). Cut the existing wires from the ballast with the wire cutters.
- 4). Unscrew the mounting nuts that are used to secure the ballast with the nut driver. Lower the ballast out of the fixture. Set the new ballast into place and tighten the mounting nuts.
- 5). Remove ½ inch of insulation from each of the electrical wires with the wire strippers. Twist together the matching colored wires. Insert the twisted wires into a wire nut. Twist the nut on the wires until it is tight.
- 6). Set the ballast cover back in place. Tighten the nuts to secure the cover, if needed.
- 7). Turn on the breaker at the circuit panel or plug the fixture back into the electrical outlet.
