How to Properly Pack Delicate Antique Vases
Whether as a centerpiece in a foyer or as an eye-catching item on a mantel, a vintage vase makes a perfect adornment.
And because these pieces are so delicate, they must be given extra care and attention.
This is especially true if you constantly relocate from one house to another.
If you want to protect these items' integrity during relocation, you must learn how to pack these items the way professional packers do.
How can you pack your antique vases properly? Here are the steps.
Step 1.
Prepare your materials.
The basic idea of packing is to make sure that the vase receives the least amount of stress possible.
The materials that can help you achieve this objective are the following: a thin sheet of foam, small and large bubble wraps, tape, soft cloth, and a box.
You can find all these materials in a specialty store.
Step 2.
Cover the surface of the vase with a sheet of thin foam.
Doing this will protect the surface from scratches that can lead to a rough texture, discoloration, or damage to any embellishments if there are any.
Step 3.
Protect the neck.
The neck is the most delicate part, so wrap it with either a small bubble wrap or a soft cloth.
Flannel or cotton sheets are recommended as they are super soft and don't scratch the vase's surface.
Remember, you don't want a very tight enclosure, so make the necessary adjustment for a snug fit.
Step 4.
Wrap the whole vase with a large bubble wrap.
Roll the body of the item with a large bubble wrap until you achieve 4 to 5 layers of the wrap.
Roll it nicely, and once again, make sure that everything fits snugly.
Step 5.
Close the opening on both ends You can do this with a small bubble wrap.
Put a tape from end to end to tighten the bubble and finish the procedure.
Step 6.
Prepare the box.
It pays to measure the bubble-wrapped item to make sure that you pick the right box.
If there is no box that perfectly matches the size of your vase, make the necessary adjustments by cutting off the excess part of the box.
Step 7.
Put "top" and "bottom" marks on the vase and the box.
This is to instruct the courier on the proper orientation of the package.
Step 8.
Put the wrapped item into the center of the box.
Step 9.
Add high-level packing peanuts.
Slowly pour in the packing peanuts and distribute them properly.
You can jostle the box a little bit to get the right density of the peanuts.
Step 10.
Close the box and put some tape on it.
The package is now ready to be shipped.
