How to Remove Virus Alert on My Desktop
- 1). Install an antivirus program. By doing this, you are not only removing the alerts but also cleaning and protecting your computer from potential hard drive crashes and data loss. AVG, Avast, Avira and Norton all offer free trial editions and downloads (see Resources section). Run a complete scan of your computer to detect and remove viruses.
- 2). Install an anti-spyware program. Sometimes, these virus alerts may be fake. Adware or spyware may have entered your computer and created these virus alerts to trick you into buying a full product. Ad-Aware SE, Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy offer free downloads (see Resources section). Run a complete scan with your anti-spyware program.
- 3). Identify the program that is generating the virus alerts. Press "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Delete" to launch the Task Manager. Click on "Processes." Scroll down the list to find the program. Click on it and click "End Process." This step is a temporary fix. You need to get rid of the virus or spyware as outlined in Step 1 and Step 2 for a permanent fix.
