Stuffing and Packing a Box
- 1). Select a box that is sturdy and slightly larger than you anticipate needing for the item or items you are packing. Use a box that has a lid or has flaps that fold down to form a lid.
- 2). Crumple enough newspaper to cover the bottom of the box. Wrap all glass, porcelain or other breakable items individually with two sheets of newspaper apiece. You do not need to wrap such non-breakables as books or plastic items with newspaper unless you choose to do so.
- 3). Place the items individually into the bottom of the box with the largest, heaviest items on the bottom. Fit other smaller items around the larger items while attempting to leave approximately one to two of inches of space open at the top of the box.
- 4). Crumple enough newspaper to finish filling the box and place it on top of the items. Place the lid on the box or fold down the outer flaps to form a lid. Tape the lid shut with two layers of packing tape.
- 5). Write the contents of the box on the outside of the box, along with what room the items came from. For example, write “Plates and dishes: kitchen” or “Books: our room” or “Junk drawer stuff: garage.”
