Many people give poor sleep advice.
Counting sheep and drinking warm milk simply don't help you fall asleep.
However, sleep is very important to our health and well-being, so it's important to know sleep tips that actually work.
Here are three vital sleep tips that you probably have not heard of before.
Sleep Tip 1: Eat magnesium-rich foods.
Did you know that magnesium is one of the most critical minerals for healthy brain function? Magnesium helps regulate brain activity by preventing the brain from becoming to "hyperactive".
A magnesium supplement before bedtime can improve sleep quality and even get you to sleep faster.
Sleep Tip 2: Drink Matcha Green Tea instead of Coffee.
If you must drink caffeine (like I must!) then it's important to get it from the right sources.
Coffee sets you up for a caffeine crash, which you might fight with another cup.
Matcha Green Tea (a powder form of green tea) contains enough caffeine to give you the same alertness boost, but it also contains natural ingredients (L-theanine) that slow down the release of caffeine.
Matcha tea will give you a sustained performance boost for several hours without overloading your system.
This means at night you'll have much sounder sleep.
Sleep Tip 3: If you must cut sleep short, wake up early, but don't go to bed late.
The first few hours of sleep contain vital deep sleep that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
The last half of sleep contains lighter sleep and REM sleep.
REM sleep is important, but your body holds deep sleep in higher regard.
If you are very busy and must cut out on sleep it's better to get deep sleep.
So go to bed when you're body tells you to, then wake up early if you need a few extra hours in the day (and we know we all do sometimes!).
