    • 1). Confirm the mailing address of the creditor or debtor. Some creditors such as the larger credit card companies may have multiple addresses and may prefer you use a particular address for bankruptcy purposes. Usually, this address will be on the most recent communication you have received from your creditor or debtor, or you may find it on your credit report. You can also call the creditor or debtor to obtain the correct address.

    • 2). Contact your local bankruptcy clerk. While the process of amending your bankruptcy petition still falls under federal jurisdiction, most bankruptcy districts have their own forms or procedures for filing an amendment with the court. Visit the website of your local court or the bankruptcy clerk where you filed your original petition and locate the preferred form for filing your amendment.

    • 3). Revise your original bankruptcy schedules to include the additional information. For example, Schedule F is the federal bankruptcy form where you list your unsecured creditors. If you are adding another unsecured creditor to your petition, you must file a new Schedule F that includes the additional creditor.

    • 4). Complete the amendment form as instructed. Typically, the amendment form will ask you to list the form or forms that you are amending.

    • 5). Pay the fee. Amending a schedule to add creditors or debtors incurs a fee of $26, as of 2010.

    • 6). Mail a copy to all creditors. When you modify your bankruptcy petition, you must mail a copy of your amended schedules and the amendment filing form to all of your creditors.
