Many times if your nerve in your lower back gets pinched by your spinal vertebrae you will find that you can have numbness, pain, or even tingling and this is called sciatica.
In occasion sciatica can also be a result of your piniformis muscle due to the fact that your nerve runs through this muscle.
If you happen to believe that the sciatica pain that you are feeling is because of a disc that is herniated or because of an injury to your back then you need to talk with your doctor before taking part in any form of sciatica treatment.
Stretching and also strengthening your muscles are very important when you have lower back injuries that are causing your nerve pain.
When you strengthen and stretch you will find that you are able to many times relieve the pain that you are in.
This needs to be done in a manner that will not cause more injury to the back however.
You can do yoga based stretches to help with the pain that you are feeling.
Below I will go over a few of them.
You will want to make sure that you lie on the back and also put your knee up and your foot on the ground.
You can then bring up the other leg as much as you are able as long as you are still keeping you pelvis flat.
You will want to hold your thigh and flex your foot so that your calf and your hamstring are stretched.
Once you feel the tension you will want to hold it for a short period of time after that you can rest and do it again.
After you have you have done this you can do it again with your other leg.
Another exercise that you can do is to put your legs up in the air from a laying down position.
Then put your ankle to your opposite leg above the knee.
This should look like a four.
Put your hand in the space between your legs and wrap the hold hand around the leg so the hands are able to meet.
After this you will want to bend your leg till your hip begins to stretch you can stop when you feel it and then repeat again.
When done switch to the other leg.
Be sure no matter what exercises you are doing that you work to make sure you are doing them properly as to not cause any further issues.
