1. Tropical World at Roundhay Park

3. National Coal Mining Museum

The coal industry has been at the heart of life in Yorkshire for centuries and the National Coal Mining Museum allows visitors to learn about the history of mining in the area and the rest of the country, whilst also getting to experience some of the realities of working in a mine. The museum's centrepiece is its guided underground tours where visitors are lead around a real coal mine by former coal miners. During this tour you will be able to experience the sights, sounds and dangers that coal miners deal with first hand whilst learning how the industry has drastically changed over the centuries. If you have a head for heights there is also the Furnace Shaft with its glass-topped 140m drop and views all the way down to the bottom of the mine.
