Chandragiri FortA Popular Ticketed Monument
Appearance
The name of the Chandragiri Fort might let one think that this would be just another fort, with under constructed building, ruined walls, and everything scattered here and there, but just a few remains of the ancient history of India. But, this is not so. This fort is perhaps one of the most maintained forts of India with beautifully carved structures and artistic items. More than a fort, this fort gives the appearance of a palace or a museum. From the outside, the fort looks awesome and just by a single look of it, one would want to enter in the fort and praise the beauty of nature.
History
Built in the 11th century, the Chandragiri Fort Tirupati still holds the same beauty as when it was built by the Yadava Rayas. According to Wikipedia, Yadava Rayas ruled the place of Chandragiri for over three long centuries and later, when this place came under the control of Vijayanagara rulers, the place came into even more prominence. Later on, the place came under the rule of Mysore kings and they became the residents of the fort. It was in 18th century when the fort went into oblivion.
Structure
The Chandragiri Fort Tirupati is separated into two palaces, one of the king and another one of the queen. Although there is no evidence to state that the one that is said to belong to King actually belonged to him and vice versa, but the native people say so and the decoration of the place also confirms the same. The Raja Mahal is built pre-dominantly and is a simple structure with its sober beauty. Currently, this Mahal is being used as a museum and contains a large collection of artifacts. Apart from artifacts, there are various smaller temples built into the Raja Mahal. Among the temples, the most impressive one is the Gudimallam temple and lingam.
Unlike the Raja Mahal, the Rani Mahal of the Chandragiri Fort Tirupati is a somewhat complicated structure from outside but from the inside, even the Rani Mahal is a simple structure.
Visiting Chandragiri
People come here not only to enjoy the ancient art of Indian history, but also to celebrate picnic with their friends and family. This place is not like a lone one; instead, a huge crowd comes here every day. Aside of the Chandragiri Fort Tirupati is situated a small lake, where tourists go for boating.
