Making the ecosystem of your lawn more stable and resistant is one of the best strategies. Ecosystem involves the plants, animals, habitats, natural resources, birds and insects. You cannot build a strong ecosystem for your lawn in a day or two. It takes time but certainly you can achieve the target and once you are successful in building a favorable ecosystem then your lawn care needs would be reduced to minimal.

You can begin with repairing the soil. Soil is the closest factor that influences the growth of a plant, grass or a tree. Your lawn receives its food and water through soil. Soil also allows oxygen to the plants. So any changes made in the soil would definitely reflect in the plants and the changes are fairly fast. You can conduct a soil test to begin with. Ideally soil should be only moderately acidic. You need to have a proper pH level that defines the acidic or alkaline nature of the soil. Further, the nitrogen, calcium and magnesium level of the soil should be proper. Testing the soil will help you in determining the level of deficiency suffered by your lawn. Accordingly, you can choose a fertilizer that makes up for the deficient elements. This way you can avoid over-fertilization that can damage the plants eventually. There are different soil types like clay, loam, humus, sandy, silt etc. Each of this soil type requires different irrigation and aeration techniques. Identify the needs of your lawn soil and accordingly offer them the right kind of treatment.

Improve the aeration and organic nutrient supply for your lawn. Create organic compost resources for your lawn trees, shrubs and grasses. In this regard different grasses and plants have varying requirements. Use vegetation debris for making the soil naturally fertile. Inquire about the right timings and right quantities for applying compost on your lawn.

Finally adopt an eco-friendly strategy. Reduce the use of oil powered machines on your lawn. Take measures to reduce pollutants in water and air reaching your lawn.

Try to build a friendly ecosystem for your lawn by cultivating herbs and plants that are beneficial for the grasses and trees in your lawn. Breed beneficial insects and birds that can protect your lawn from pests and harmful bugs.
