    • 1). Take off the plastic strips hiding four screws on the radio bezel--the plastic console that surrounds the radio. One plastic strip is above the radio and the other above the air-conditioner fans.

    • 2). Unscrew the four revealed screws on the radio bezel with the Phillips-head screwdriver. When the bezel is free, lay it aside.

    • 3). Detach the console around the shifter by removing three screws--two on the side near the radio and one near the tray.

    • 4). Unscrew the shift knob by turning it counterclockwise. The shift knob is threaded in, but the manufacturer has added an adhesive agent, so it will take a lot of force to get the know to begin to unscrew.

    • 5). Take off the upper boot by prying it up with your fingers.

    • 6). Remove the lower boot by unscrewing the bolt attaching it to the car, using the 12mm socket and wrench. When the bolt is off, pull the lower boot, and it should detach easily.

    • 7). Clean the boot thoroughly using soap and warm water, using a brush or a mild cleaning agent if necessary, or replace the boot with a new one from your Nissan dealer or an auto parts retailer, or a used boot from a salvage parts retailer. Reassemble the Nissan's interior by following the steps in reverse order.
