There Is An Undeniable ADHD Genetic Connection - Does It Affect Treatment?

It has been determined that children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are twice as much likely to also have a chromosome disorder than their non-ADHD peers are.
This was the conclusion arrived at by a study done in the United Kingdom and involving 366 children, all Caucasian and between the ages of five years and seventeen years.
This essentially answers the question: Is ADHD genetic? However this is not the only study that addressed the issue of whether there is a genetic link when it comes to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD.
Another study in Israel even identified two genes that are connected with ADHD, thereby adding greater impetus to the studies that have already established the genetic link.
Many parents discover that they have ADHD themselves once they have a child who is diagnosed with the disorder.
This alone provides the answer to whether there is a genetic link.
These parents did not develop the disorder once they reached adulthood.
Rather, they had the disorder since they were very young children but were simply never diagnosed.
For many this has led to some really difficult times in their lives, because ADHD can play havoc with your life professionally, academically, and socially.
Statistics also bear witness when it comes to the question, is ADHD genetic.
Statistically speaking, nearly every single child diagnosed with the disorder will have at least one other family member who also has ADHD.
There are some studies that even suggest that men with ADHD are three times as likely to father a child with the disorder.
In the case of twins, the likelihood that both will have ADHD if one of them is diagnosed with it can be as high as ninety percent! Clearly, even though more scientific research is necessary, there is a connection between genetics and ADHD.
Irrespective of the genetic connection, ADHD is more of than not considered to be a neurological condition.
This means that the chemicals within the brain are not functioning as they should for whatever reason.
Two chemicals that frequently come up when discussing the neurological issue are adrenaline and norepinephrine.
Serotonin has also come under the spotlight because it is involved with regulating the mood.
Because of the dysfunction of these chemicals depression often accompanies ADHD.
When it comes to the issues of cures and/or treatments there is a lot of debate.
Doctors continue to prescribe stimulant drugs to treat the symptoms, combining this with behavioral modification therapy.
Unfortunately, ADHD drugs are not safe.
They can produce very unpleasant side effects and nobody knows what the results of long term use will be.
Many parents are tired of hearing the many horror stories surrounding ADHD drugs and so, rather than putting their child or children at risk, choose to try natural ADHD remedies.
One of the major deciding factors for parents who take this viewpoint, besides the fact that homeopathic remedies are entirely safe, is that they know that their child will not act like a zombie, as is so often reported by concerned parents whose child is taking Ritalin, Adderall, Strattera, etc.
Although psycho-stimulant drugs do help a percentage of kids with ADHD it must not be overlooked that many show no improvement, while others suffer debilitating side effects.
There are alternative ways of treating ADHD that you can choose for your child.
