Wall Decals Add Whimsy to Nursery Walls

The first order of business it to choose a color motif and general theme. If you are a traditionalist, you'll find lots of options in framed art and wall hangings that feature classic Beatrix Potter tales, preppy pinstripes for boys or perhaps a French toile design that is as darling as your daughter-to-be. On the other hand, if you are looking for something a little fanciful and off the beaten path, you might consider decorating the nursery with whimsical wall decals.Children wall Stickers

If you haven't looked at wall decals since you were a kid, you're in for a pleasant surprise. No longer limited to sticky, tacky looking and garish colors or designs, today's decals are thinner, attractive and come in a nearly limitless array of styles, themes and colors, with many rivaling the look of designer wallpaper. Most are made of vinyl with a peel-and-stick adhesive backing. You simple remove the backing and press it on the wall; many are designed to be repositioned at will. One of the best things about today's decals is that they leave no gummy or sticky residue behind. You'll find wall decals at craft stores and home decor stores, but the greatest variety can be found online. If you cannot find exactly what you want, you can have a local vehicle graphics store cut the decals for you out of vinyl.

Creating a Unique Look

You'll find decals appropriate for any nursery, whether you want to decorate with cartoon characters and action heroes, butterflies and birds, tropical fish and undersea mermaids, flowers, pandas or virtually any imaginable topic or theme. Decals are ideal for parents who would love to have a wall mural in the nursery, but are artistically challenged. Decal sets can be used on their own or against a simple painted backdrop, like a blue ocean or green meadow and blue sky. You can also purchase entire murals, however these are panels that work more like traditional wall paper and cannot be repositioned as smaller vinyl decals can.

Decals can also be hung randomly on a wall or around the room. Some, like stars and planets can even be pressed on to the ceiling. Look at the overall arrangement of the room and take your cue from there. You may want a couple of decals on the wall above the crib, around windows or doors, at chair rail height, around a dresser, and so on and then use a cute sunshine metal sculpture or metal butterfly wall art as a finishing touch. Just remember that baby will want to enjoy the decals too, so place at least some of them at a height that will be within your little one's line of sight.

Hanging the decals is probably the easiest home decor project you've ever taken on. You simply remove the paper backing. Place the decal where you want it and gently press it into place, working from the center outward to the edges, smoothing out any wrinkles or air bubbles. If the decal is not as smooth as it could be, gently lift one edge to remove the wrinkle and position it again.
