Professionals that work in the psychiatric field have determined that there are several different bipolar types.
While there are different types of this psychiatric condition, it is important to know and understand that each of the types does include symptoms that are considered to reflect that of mania, and symptoms that reflect that of depression.
Bipolar in itself is considered a disorder that is lifelong.
Treatment is typically the best course of action in order to cope with the symptoms that occur.
In this health guide, you will receive a brief overview of bipolar types.
Common Types The two most common bipolar types are identified as "bipolar I" and "bipolar II".
In Bipolar I, the individual experiences episodes where the mood swings are extremely severe.
The patient goes from one extreme to another - with extreme manic episodes to severe depressive episodes.
If an individual suffers from the bipolar type identified as "II", the symptoms are considered much less severe than that of bipolar I.
Typically, individuals that suffer from this condition will have episodes that alternate on a more regular basis.
They consist of alternating hypomania and depressive episodes.
Mixed and Rapid-Cycling The next two bipolar types are referred to as "Mixed" and "Rapid-Cycling".
Mixed bipolar is often quite challenging for an individual because of the fact that they actually experience the "highs" and "lows" of manic depressive episodes all at once.
On one hand, the sufferer feels as if they have a high level of energy, but on the other hand, they may feel extremely irritable and have severe mood swings.
Rapid-cycling is another bipolar type.
The individual that suffers from this will experience a minimum of four unique episodes over a time frame of twelve months.
The individual that suffers from this type may consider and attempt suicide.
If you or someone that you love is suffering from any of the above bipolar types, it is important to seek medical assistance.
