    • After building its first boat model in 1969, the Catalina Yacht and Boat company created its second in 1970, known as the Catalina 27. Catalina continued to manufacture the "27" for more than 20 years, finally retiring the model in 1991 and replacing it with the Catalina 270. Models of this classic boat are still for sale, sometimes at prices greater than the boat's original retail price of $7,685.

    Performance

    • The performance of each Catalina 27 varies according to keel, rig and engine options the purchaser chose but the Cruising Resources website measured a number of average performance factors. They include a displacement/length ratio of 315, a ballast to displacement ratio of 43 percent and a sail area to displacement ratio of 14.5. Other performance indicators include a comfort ratio of 25.6, a capsize screening factor of 1.8 and a length to beam ratio of 3.1.

    Measurements

    • Catalina 27s have an overall length of 26 feet 10 inches, a waterline length of 21 feet 10 inches and a length on deck of 26 feet 3 inches. The beam measures 8 feet 10 inches, the draft is 4 feet, and the minimum draft is 3 feet. Other measurements include a displacement of 7,300 pounds, a ballast weight of 3,150 pounds and a sail area of 340 square feet.
