How Landscaping Can Help You Secure Your Home
While this is certainly a great option, one that can protect a family while home or on vacation, there are other options for home security.
Interestingly, a person can actually use landscaping to enhance the level of security for a home.
Landscaping is never considered when it comes to increasing home security but this too is an exceptional possibility in that someone looking for a home to break into is going to look for one that has trees and bushes that would provide great hiding places.
In other words, home intruders will use the landscape to their advantage.
In addition to hiding, trees, bushes, trellises, and so on actually offer a means for getting into the home.
Therefore, homeowners need to look at two things when it comes to landscaping for home security to include plants and trees, as well as outdoor lighting.
Trees and Bushes Again, having tall trees near a window offer an intruder the perfect natural ladder on which to climb.
With branches going toward the home, any place where there is a window, means they could simply climb up the tree, open the window, and within minutes, be inside.
The same is true for large bushes or trellises in that they provide a type of ladder for entry.
Then, trees and bushes provide dark areas that are ideal for an intruder to hide.
Often, a burglar will look specifically for homes like this, knowing they can get up close to the house without being detected.
Obviously, this type of situation creates a problem for security, putting the home and family at risk.
The solution is to make sure tall trees are either planted away from the house or those that already exist should have any branches cut that could be used for getting inside the house.
For bushes, these need to be trimmed and preferably, planted away from doors and windows.
Even trellises attached to the outside of the home can create a ladder so these should only be placed on areas of the home without doors or windows.
Lighting Landscape lighting is the second part of home security that is very important.
Again, people who want to break into homes are going to scout out neighborhoods, looking for those that offer an opportunity for getting inside.
Bushes and trees that are dark are a burglar's dream.
The good news is that adding landscaping light can improve the home's security.
Then, there are spotlight options.
In addition to creating a more beautiful lawn, specifically highlighting a particular tree or bush, this type of lighting also helps with home security.
The illumination is such that the once potentially dangerous bushes and trees are now fully lit so they cannot be used by an intruder.
Finally, lighting such as those working off sensors are great for front and back porches, as well as over garage doors.
Whenever a person approaches the home, the light would be activated.
Obviously, this would not work for the person trying to break in.
Simply landscaping lighting can make a home look beautiful while also providing needed home security.
