Addiction Victory: Your Enemy Is Invisible and You Have to Know His Strategies
You can't see your addiction. If you could see it you'd probably feel more confident about fighting it. It's easier to fight an enemy that you can see. Unfortunately, the driving force behind your addiction is Satan and he dwells in the invisible realm trying to keep you from your addiction free lifestyle in the visible realm. Let's look at how invisible things can impact your physical reality.
Have you ever noticed how much a cold can conÂtrol you? It's such a minor thing, but it can keep you off track for a week or more. What about when you are angry with someone? Your mind may be consumed with how you were wronged. Your creative energy is sapped away with these useless thoughts. Have you ever experienced depression? You can almost audibly hear voices telling you that your situation is hopeless and that you should give up and stop trying. Do these situations just happen randomly as a "part of life'? I don't think so. Many of them, especially addictions, are the result of attacks from satanic forces in the spirit dimension.
To win the battle, you need to be aware of the hierarchy of dimensions. The physical world has three dimensions. The first dimension is length (a straight line). The second contains both length and width. The third dimension has length, width, and depth. The fourth, and higher, dimension cannot be measured or weighed. In physics, the fourth dimension would be time, but for our purposes I will call the fourth dimension the spiritual realm.
The spirit realm contains your spirit, your heart, and your mind. But it is also the place where Satan and his demons dwell. Above all dimensions is eternity, where God dwells. The law of dimensions says that all lesser dimensions are contained in higher dimensions.
Hierarchy of Dimensions
Satanic forces in the spirit dimension seek to rule the third dimension (or physical realm) by controlling your head (your thoughts) and your heart (your will). They do not manifest in physical bodies, but they attack your will power through failure-causing addictive habits, vain imagining, negative memÂories, destructive emotions, and worldly intellect Remember, your state of mind in the spirit realm will affect the condition of your body in the physÂical realm, so these spirit dimension attacks can also produce headaches, colds, and other illnesses.
"For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies-the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world" (Eph. 6:12, TLB). When you are isolated and alone, you get ganged up on by these evil spirit forces.
The enemy wants to sever your link with God as he did with Adam and Eve. He likes to keep you preoccupied with your addiction. He tries to keep you from being a vessel of productivity for God's will so that he can use you for his own purposes in the third dimension. He'll corrupt your presupposiÂtions (how you view the world), beliefs, and potential to keep you from trusting God. He'll also make you think you're too busy with your problems to worship God for nourishment and power.
A quick way that Satan can disconnect you from God is to get you to disobey God, even if it's just in a small way. No matter how small your disobediÂence is, it's sin. You don't have to murder anybody, just disobey God and obey the devil. When you disÂobey God you lose your peace--you're disconnected.
If God is not filling you and leading you, then the enemy is. Satan will offer you things of the earth, i.e. food, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, money, fame, etc. That's what he offered Jesus. (See Luke 4:1-13.) You have to go before God and ask, "Am I off the right path?" You know you're off the right path when you're putting something before God. It becomes idolatrous. Abraham faced this temptaÂtion with his son, Isaac. His son was not God and if he had put his son in God's place he would have been defeated.
God is jealous in guarding His relationship of bonding with you because it's the only chance you and I have against the demons. They're smarter than us. They've been around longer than you and me.
