The Best Way to Remove a Ceramic Tile Floor
- 1). Put on the goggles and gloves before beginning. Ceramic is sharp when broken, and shards may fly upwards.
- 2). Position the chisel near the center of the tile floor. The chisel end should be directly against the center of the ceramic tile.
- 3). Hit the top of the chisel with the small sledgehammer. This requires a moderate amount of force in order to crack the existing tile. Remove the bulk of the tile in this way. Leave the tile around the edges of the room. As each tile is broken, pick it up and place it in a large bucket.
- 4). Position the floor scraper so that the scraper end is flush with the edges of the remaining tiles. Push the scraper forward as though shoveling the tile. This takes a moderate amount of force. Scrape until all of tile around the edges of the room is removed.
- 5). Scrape the floor with the floor scraper until the coat of dried adhesive is completely removed.
