Can Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Be Used by Halogen Lamps?
- CFBs have screw-in bases, just like an ordinary light bulb. If you wish to use them in a halogen lamp, it must have the same type of connector base.
- Some halogen lamps use tubular, double-ended bulbs that have connecting terminals at each end. CFBs cannot be used in these lamps because the connectors are different.
- Some halogen lamps need bulbs that have two pin (commonly called bipin) connectors. CFBs cannot be used in these lamps.
- Some single-ended halogen lamps have the same type of screw-in connection as standard light bulbs. But others have smaller connectors or twist in types. CFBs will fit only in the standard connection.
- Halogen bulbs produce high-intensity light in small bulbs. Even if a halogen lamp has a standard bulb connection, the CFB may not fit inside the reflector or globe of the halogen lamp.
- CFBs will fit in some halogen flood and spot lights with no trouble. But the amount of light produced will be far less than with the halogen bulb. You may save energy but not have enough light.
