Giant Stuffed Monkeys

Monkeys are so much like humans that it's been reported they share 99% of our DNA. That's quite extraordinary when you think about it. It could be one of the reasons we are so enthralled by monkeys when we see them. They are so much like us that we can relate to them on a level different from most other animals.

Like humans, monkey hands have thumbs and fingers but unlike us, their hands have weak small thumbs. Monkeys fingers are long and powerful and they form a hook which they use to climb trees and suspend from branches. While monkeys don't use their thumbs like we do (they are too weak to be able to tie a knot or write with a pen), they instead use their very adept fingers similarly to a human baby who hasn't quite learned to use its hand properly. While we would grasp a nut with our thumb and forefinger, monkeys (like babies) grasp it between their fingers and their palm. It's no wonder with all the similarities we share, that giant stuffed monkeys are such popular plush toys, particularly amongst children. By the same token, a giant stuffed monkey is just such a lovable pet that they're simply hard to resist.

There are more than 150 known species of monkey. They live in two regions of the world and are known as either Old World or New World monkeys. Old World monkeys can be found living in Asia and Africa (like baboons) and New World monkeys live in Mexico and Central and South America (like spider monkeys). Luckily, with a giant stuffed monkey, you don't have to worry about where they come from or whether or not they can adapt to their habitat - all they require is lots of love and even more cuddles!

Giant stuffed monkeys are made to replicate their real counterparts, though it's interesting to note that there are some slight differences between the species depending on where they come from. For example, an Old World monkey has a nose with small nostrils that are close together, while a New World monkey has round nostrils which are far apart. Another of their differences is in their cheeks; Old world monkeys have pouches in their cheeks which they use to stuff food into - they can then run with the food in their mouth and chew on it later. New World monkeys, on the other hand, don't have cheek pouches at all. It's likely that a child won't care about such details as nostrils and cheeks when they are given a giant stuffed monkey. After all, that monkey doesn't need to be fed and certainly doesn't need to breathe (if only in our imaginations). Giant stuffed monkeys are just so adorable to look at that all a child will care about is keeping it close so they can be sure to get the maximum amount of snuggle out of it!
