How to Mop Hardwood Floors Without Damage
- 1). Sweep the hardwood floor with a soft-bristle brush. It is very important that you do this before you mop. If you don't, your mop will be pushing the dirt around the room. If you have any small rocks or pebbles on the floor, they could cause damage.
- 2). Fill an empty spray bottle with water. Squirt your mop with it. You want your mop to be damp but not soaked with water. Too much water can damage the wood.
- 3). Mop the hardwood floor by moving the mop in the direction of the grain of the wood. Do this until you have mopped the entire floor. You may need to spray your mop a few times, but remember only a light spray is needed.
- 4). Spray a professional hardwood floor cleaner, such as Zep hardwood floor cleaner, directly on the hardwood. Use your mop to push the cleaner around the hardwood floor. This doesn't need to be done on a regular basis; once every two to three weeks is fine.
- 5). Rinse your mop out thoroughly before putting it away. You don't want to leave any trapped dirt on your mop. Otherwise, the next time you use it, the dirt could scratch the wood surface.
