Different Diets To Follow For Lower Cholesterol

These diets involve the consumption of plant based foods rather than animal based foods.
Plant based foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes are full of good cholesterol and these should replace animal based foods such as fatty meats, all dairy products, sweets, eggs, white sugar products and white flour products.
Cereals (oats, barley, wheat germ, soy lecithin), whole grained breads, brown rice, dried beans and peas are generally food of good cholesterol.
White flour breads, sweet breads, cakes, ice cream and alcohol beverages are generally products of bad cholesterol.
By reducing or eliminating these bad cholesterol foods and increasing one's intake of plant based foods, one's good/bad cholesterol balance will be put right.
There are a number of products that are being marketed today as good for one's cholesterol balance but are in fact the opposite.
Products such as hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil, light margarine and light shortening are such products but these are all filled with what is called trans-fat.
Trans-fats or trans fatty acids have been known to increase bad cholesterol and decrease good cholesterol although admittedly at a lower level than saturated fats.
Trans-fats are found is such products as salad dressing, vegetable shortening, sweets, baked goods, fried foods, and processed foods generally.
These marketing campaigns give the impression that these foods are safe for consumption but nothing could be further from the truth.
So when making purchases at the supermarket, be sure to look at the ingredients listed on the labels of products and look out for trans-fats and saturated fats.
These products should be avoided.
The other changes to one's lifestyle that are just as necessary as dietary changes are elimination of those vices or bad habits such as smoking and excessive drinking of alcohol.
Smoking has a very deleterious effect on optimum heart health and excessive alcohol has a deleterious effect on the liver which is central to the production of cholesterol and insulin in the body.
Of great importance also is the change from a sedentary lifestyle to one that is active with a regular daily program of exercise such for at least 45 minutes which can involve walking, jogging, biking, swimming, etc.
Consumption of large quantities of pure water is also necessary.
Activity and exercise causes the bad cholesterol and toxins to leave the body via perspiration and consumption of pure water facilitates excretion of waste from the body in a major way.
Lack of these two activities is a major cause of chronic disease in the world today.
Finally all this advice must be cleared with your medical professional before embarking on it.
