    • 1). Label one cardboard box or plastic bag for donations and one for trash. Keep these handy as you go through the remaining steps. Any item that you do not plan on keeping should be placed into one of these boxes or bags immediately.

    • 2). Place the large trunk or toy-box against a convenient wall. Use for stuffed-animals, dress up clothes or any other category of large toy that will not suffer from crowding. Don't keep more items than you have room to store.

    • 3). Assemble shelves as needed. Place large items such as playhouses, remote controlled cars and stand alone items onto shelves.

    • 4). Sort all other toys into tubs. Containers of various sizes can be used to store toys with small pieces (such as Legos), multiples of the same toy (such as match box cars) and toys that have lost their packaging. Clear plastic tubs will allow you to easily see the contents of each tub. Each tub should have only one type of toy in it. Tubs can then be stored on shelves or stacked.

    • 5). Hang backpacks and purses on hangers in the closet or hooks installed on the wall.
