If you aware that you have bad breath and you happen to have tonsil stones, you have probably already realized that the two go together.
Indeed, tonsil stones can be the cause of some of the worst cases of bad breath and if you have ever opened up a tonsil stone, and being confronted with the foul smelling interior, you will know exactly what I mean! Although there are a few ways to remove tonsil stones, there are two main issues:- Firstly, finding a method which will remove ALL tonsil stones, and not just the obvious ones.
Secondly, ensuring that they do not return, thus undoing all your good work.
The reasons for these two comments are obvious.
If you are not successful in removing each one, even the smallest of fragments can be surprisingly pungent and so any tiny "seeds" which are left will have a foul odor and naturally, they will grow into bigger stones.
Also, you need to take steps to ensure that the stones cannot return, otherwise you will be left with an endless cycle.
One way to eradicate the stones is to have surgery.
This could involve the removal of the individual stones by an oral curette or a full tonsillectomy.
You can also try to remove tonsil stones yourself.
If they have not become deeply entrenched, a small medicine dropper can sometimes suck them out.
If your gag reflex is not too strong, pushing a finger against the bottom of the tonsil and pushing gently upward can help to pop them out.
Another way to get rid of tonsil stones is to cough them out.
Although tricky, some people are able to close up and then flex the throat, followed by coughing, and this may help to dislodge them.
