My Child is Gluten Intolerant. Now What?

Children are always too sensitive about how people around them treat them. If there is something that puts children out of their place, they become too vulnerable to their surroundings. Gluten intolerance although may seem like a big change in the child's life in a society but it is easily avoidable today. Gluten intolerance now happens to a number of people including adults, and this has introduced a range of gluten free items on the store. While it is easy to find such items for your child, you will still have to look out for him/her when your child is in school or with friends. It is difficult to put the consciousness and maturity in the child to eat what everybody else is enjoying. It is the duty of the parent to inform other parents and teachers to make sure the child is avoiding gluten based food. There are many ways to do this, and also a way to bring this to your advantage.

Selecting food


Firstly, you should be informed about the fact that gluten free food is actually good healthy food for everyone. If your family enjoys gluten free food, they will not miss out any of the essential nutrition that a gluten food would otherwise offer. It would be a smart decision to bring the habit of taking gluten free food as primary choice. There are substitutes for almost every kind of food with a gluten-free version that you can enjoy. Secondly, you need to divide food for common consumption and special occasions. Whenever you feel your child needs to be treated with candy, you can bring those occasional items for him/her to enjoy.

At school


Every teacher now has the knowledge or respecting a child's differences and requirements. When you go for your child's admission or parent teacher meeting, make sure you communicate this message to all the teachers so that there is a conscious effort towards the child. Additionally, you can stay in touch with the class teacher to know about any events that will take place in future. There will be Easter, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day and many other occasions that will have a lunch party. Prepare accordingly for those occasions by baking something nice for your child. Even though the item will be different for him/her, he/she will still enjoy carrying something different but equally good tasting like others.

Learn more interesting items to cook


You will have to enjoy cooking for your child because there will always be more distractions for fast food items outside. If you make equally interesting items at home and encourage everyone else to follow the same practice in front of your child, then nothing will tempt them. There are countless recipes you can find from the internet that show how you can make gluten free dishes for your family.
