If you have problems falling asleep or staying asleep, you know how insomnia takes a toll on the ability to function during daytime.
You can't concentrate, you are easily irritated but did you ever wonder how lack of sleep effects your health and body? Sleep deprivation and insomnia can affect your life and health in many ways:
  • Higher Risk of Diabetes
It is shown that not getting enough sleep affects your body's ability to metabolize glucose ( sugar)witch can lead to type 2 Diabetes
  • Your wounds heal slower
A study conducted on rats show that skin burns will heal slower when the rats don't getenough "deep sleep".
It has not been proven to be true for human subjects, but it is easy to relate sleep deprivation with your body not having enough energy to "regenerate"
  • Your brain slows down
Sleep deprivation will effect brain functions, mostly learning and memory function.
It is also linked to heart disease and mental illness.
The brain becomes less capable ofidentifying an emotional event and putting it into perspective.
We then become less capable of controlling our response to certain situations.
Much like children when they are tired.
A study conducted in Australia reported that lake of sleep is worse then being drunk for your brain functions.
  • Obesity
Many studies suggest now that there is a relation with how many hours we sleep and obesity problems.
The lake of sleep disturbs the hormones that regulate glucose, our metabolism and our appetite.
When the hormones are unbalanced, it can directly affect our weight.
