- 1). Sort through the housewares you want to donate. Make sure that all items are in good working condition and clean before placing the items aside.
- 2). Contact local charities in your area or local places of worship to find out which places will accept your housewares. Some national non-profit organizations maintain networks with establishments in local areas and can direct you to a local facility that can accept your housewares. These national non-profit organizations include The American Red Cross, The United Way and The Salvation Army.
- 3). Sort the housewares according to category. These could include entertainment items, kitchen products or living room accessories.
- 4). Package the items so that fragile items will have less of a chance of breaking when you deliver them to the charity. For example, place as many housewares items as you can in empty boxes. Wrap newspaper or bubble wrap around each plate, bowl, glass or cup you are packing.
- 5). Close the boxes, tape them shut and write the contents of each box on the outside of the box.
