    • 1). Take the half gallon milk carton, open the screw cap, and fill it up with hot water and 2 tablespoons of dish detergent. Shake the carton, then leave it to sit over night. After 24 hours, pour the water out and leave the milk carton to dry, unscrewed and upside down, for another day.

    • 2). Choose the color of acrylic paint that you prefer. Paint the entire carton one solid color then let it dry over night. Light colors like bright pink or yellow will cause the milk carton designs to show through, so unless you want it to show through, choose deeper colors like dark green or plum purple. You can use up to two coats of acrylic paint if you'd like.

    • 3). Make sure it's dry in the morning by testing it with your finger. If the paint doesn't rub off onto your finger continue to make your piggy bank. Use the ruler to mark an inch on the top of the milk carton, and take the scissors to slit the inch into an opening, once it's dry.

    • 4). Design and write symbols, names or numbers all over the milk carton with the paint pen. Use any color paint pen you want, and even multiple paint pen colors to make it even more creative. Then splash glitter onto the designs, symbols, names or numbers.

    • 5). Allow the new piggy bank at least 24 hours to dry before putting money into the slit, and using it to save coins.
