How to Get Burn Marks off of a Stove

    • 1). Examine the burn to determine the appropriate cleaning method and materials required. Allow a ceramic glass or stainless steel stovetop surface to cool before attempting to clean the burn mark. However, you can clean a porcelain enamel-coated surface before it is cooled.

    • 2). Remove burned-on sugary spills as soon as possible to keep them from drying, hardening and caking. Turn off the stovetop burners and remove the pot, pan or cookware item from the stovetop. Soak up the spill with paper towels. Let the surface cool before you attempt to scrape and remove the burned on residue.

    • 3). Apply detergent to a sponge cleaning pad soaked in warm water. Gently scour the burn area to lift the brown burn film and residue. Do not use an abrasive cleanser as this can scratch any type of stovetop surface, whether it is stainless steel, enamel or ceramic glass.

    • 4). Use a degreaser product as a follow-up application if there are remaining traces of burn marks on stainless steel or porcelain stovetops. Use a cream-based product specifically made for ceramic glass stovetops. These products will help lift and clean away residual marks and particles from the stovetop surface.

    • 5). Let the product sit (if directed) long enough to activate, then follow with a cleaning pad, sponge or damp cloth to remove the cleanser. Reapply, if needed, to remove the burn mark.

    • 6). Use a razor scraper to remove caked-on burned food matter, once the glass surface has cooled, to dislodge the burned matter. Hold the scraper at a 45-degree angle and glide it over the caked-on burned food matter. Do not scrape back and forth, as this can scratch the ceramic glass. Scrape in one direction, lift the razor, glide the burned matter to the side, and then repeat scraping in one direction until all the burned matter is removed.

    • 7). Remove any remaining tiny particles of caked-on matter from the surface with a dampened sponge or cloth. After particles have been lifted, clean off the residual matter with a sponge or damp cloth. Follow with a paper towel to remove moisture and dry the glass area.

    • 8). Apply cream cleanser for ceramic stoves to restore and recondition the glass surface. Rub the cream cleanser onto the burned area to remove it from the cooktop surface. If pressure is required, do so gently to avoid scratching the surface.

    • 9). Buff after cleaning with a paper towel or a soft cloth to restore the shine and brilliance to your ceramic glass cook top.
