How to Repair a Kayak With Marine Goop
- 1). Sand the damaged or leaking area of the kayak with short, stiff strokes. You want the plastic to discolor a little and become whitish. Marine goop adheres to polyethylene plastic best when the surface is rough.
- 2). Pour rubbing alcohol on the sanded area and wipe it clean with a paper towel. Inspect the sanded area for particles of plastic debris. If it is completely clean, allow the rubbing alcohol to evaporate before you apply your marine goop.
- 3). Squeeze the marine goop out of the tube onto the damaged area of your kayak. Once you have a substantial amount of goop covering the damaged area, spread it around evenly with a plastic knife. Allow the goop to dry for 24 hours before exposing it to water.
