  The 1984 Caprice is part of a line of luxury hard-top sedans produced by Chevrolet from 1965 to 1996. In their heyday, the Caprice models were among the most expensive full-bodied cars available. Upgrades were introduced each year to the exteriors, interiors and engine class. In 1984, Chevy produced three different models of the Caprice, including a two-door coupe, a classic sedan and a classic wagon, each with specifications unique to the year and the model.
  
  

Sports Coupe

• The Caprice Classic was the only two-door sports coupe that Chevrolet offered in 1984. A hard-top car, its stylings were similar to the 1981 models, including a wide, egg-crate chrome grill. An optional Landau package offered a vinyl roof, molding details and upgraded mirrors. Under the hood, the Caprice Classic had automatic overdrive transmission and a standard 229 cubic-inch 3.5 L V-6 engine as standard, with a 350 cubic-inch diesel V-8 engine as optional. The Caprice Classic sports coupe had other standard features, including cruise control, interior wood grain paneling and sport mirrors.
  
  

Station Wagon

• The eight-seat Caprice Classic station wagon came standard with a 150 bhp 5.0-liter V-8 gas engine built directly by Chevy, with an optional diesel package similar to the coupe. A three-speed automatic transmission was the standard for the station wagon, with an optional four-speed automatic transmission for the diesel version. The gas engine version had heavy-duty suspension. The Caprice Classic station wagon was the only full-size station wagon offered by Chevy in 1984, the year the company discontinued its six-seat station wagon. The exterior had walnut paneling along the length of the car and the same egg-crate front grill as the sports coupe. The Caprice station wagon, like the sports coupe, also came with options such as incremental cruise control and upgraded windshield wiper controls.
  
  

The Sedan

• The 1984 Caprice Classic sedan was a four-door sedan that came with what were considered luxury details, such as factory-standard air conditioning, folding armrests and wood grain detailing throughout the interior. It shared the same 150 bhp 5.0-liter V-8 Chevy-built engine as the station wagon model. The sedan's interior had unique features such as interior wheel moldings, headlamp alerts and a quartz clock. The Caprice Classic sedan had room for six passengers. The car had optional cruise control and the Landau package as upgrades. The exterior featured the signature egg-crate front grille. For an additional cost, buyers could choose a two-tone exterior paint job.
