Bulk 7.62 x39 Ammunition

Finding bulk 7.62 x39 ammunition is getting harder and harder every day. There is still a little bit out there, but it is getting really hard to find. In fact, all ammunition is getting really hard to find. It just takes one quick glance at the hunting section in your local sporting goods store to figure that out. What used to contain stacks of ammunition, now just has some scattered boxes here and there.

There is still some Russian imported ammunition that can be bought in bulk to be had, but it is going like hotcakes. If you see it at a gun show, do not tell your buddy, "Well, let's look around a bit and then come back for it." It won't be there. Trust me, I did it just recently. But be careful when shooting the so-called "non-corrosive" ammo that comes from Russia. I have heard rumors that sometimes some old primers get thrown into the production run. Its best that if you are not going to clean your gun immediately after shooting, then you should check it the next day or two to make sure that it isn't showing signs of rust.

There is also apparently some Chinese bulk 7.62 x39 ammunition out there that says non-corrosive but in fact it is corrosive. So just be sure to use caution when buying in bulk to make sure you don't damage your gun.

Another thing to note is that I have noticed some bulk ammo that says "brass plated". This basically means a steel case with some brass sprinkled on to make it look like the expensive stuff. It isn't. If you like to re-load your own ammunition, don't be fooled by these and think you are getting brass cases. They are steel cases.

As far as accuracy is concerned, some bulk ammo seems to be marginally better than others, but for the most part it is pretty accurate. When you are paying the equivalent of about $2 a box, it's kinda hard to quibble over bullseyes.

So please be aware of these things when you are buying your bulk ammo for your guns. 7.62 x 39 ammunition is most commonly bought for the AK-47 and if you own one of those, you know that it will not be cheap to replace. Know the ammo!
