    • 1). Cool off those bumps and bruises with instant ice packs that activate when squeezed. Many motocross injuries occur when a rider falls. Knees, ankles, wrists, shoulders and elbows are the most common sites for bruising. By applying ice promptly, you can reduce the swelling and ease the pain.

    • 2). Clean smaller scrapes and abrasions with antiseptic wipes, followed by an application of antibiotic cream and an adhesive bandage. Taking care of the abrasion quickly allows the rider to go back to the track while reducing the risk of infection.

    • 3). Keep elastic bandages of various sizes in your motocross first aid kit. Sometimes, a little joint support can get a rider back on his bike and back into the race but make sure the injury isn't something more than just a stressed joint or tendon before returning to the fun.

    • 4). Use neoprene braces to stabilize a joint when you suspect the rider has a sprain or a fracture. Serious injuries to limbs are a medical emergency. A neoprene brace that carefully wraps around the injured arm or leg reduces discomfort during transportation to a medical facility and may prevent further damage.

    • 5). Stock your motocross first aid kit with bottles of electrolyte replacement fluids to address dehydration problems. Motocross riders often forget to drink water as the temperature rises. Always keep plenty of water on hand when riding but throw in a couple of special beverages into the kit to replenish minerals lost through excess perspiration.

    • 6). Treat mild reactions to insect bites with over-the-counter antihistamine tablets and keep a bottle of Ibuprofen in your kit to treat headaches and reduce swelling.
