When you think of the word accessories, what is it that you generally think of? You probably are like most people and think of something for looks, as in jewelry or a scarf. What if I were to ask you what you think of when it comes to vehicle accessories? Your answer could be non-essential light kits or spoilers. Now what about Jeep accessories? Jeep accessories have evolved throughout the years. The original jeep accessories were necessities for off road driving. These are not what today's society would consider an accessory. New accessories are more for looks and detail than for function. To understand the olden day accessories, you must first look at how the use of these vehicles has changed.
When jeeps were first manufactured, they were made more for function than for looks or even comfort. The jeep was developed for the government as smaller all-terrain vehicle able to handle most anything. Because soldiers knew the abuse these vehicles would take out in the field, the major concern was not comfort. Durability and function were the mainstays. Mission accomplished. Because of this, accessories were not considered comfort items. They were considered items needed for duty.
Now that the jeep is being mass produced and is available to the public, accessories have changed all but completely. When you are shopping for "accessories" for jeeps, you will more than likely find things like designer wheels, light kits, lift kits, winches, and a variety of color options for soft tops. These days you can customize your jeep any way you like. You can install new fenders in different shaped whether it be curved or flat. Body armor is an option as well. Light guards can also add to the overall appearance of your jeep.
Times have certainly changed. The jeep accessories of the 1940s are different than those of the 2000s. These days, if you can imagine it, it can most likely be installed on your jeep. There are so many options available. Now you can enjoy your jeeps appearance as well as the good ol' off road functionality.
