Chronic Prostatitis/Pelvic Pain Syndrome, Inflammatory (NIH Category IIIA)-Topic Overview Chronic prostatitis/pelvic pain syndrome, inflammatory, is an inflammation of the prostate that causes pain in the belly, testicles, or tip of the penis. It may also cause urination problems and painful ejaculation. It is the most common type of prostatitis.

Its cause often can't be found. Bacteria are usually not found in the urine. Fever, chills, or other signs of an infection are not present.

This condition used to be called nonbacterial prostatitis.
