    • 1). Close the toilet's water valve by turning the handle clockwise until tight. Flush the toilet once to drain most of the water from the tank and use a sponge and bucket to remove the rest of the water. Use a wrench to loosen the nut connecting the water supply line to the valve housing. Pop the plastic domed caps off the toilet's base and use a wrench to remove the closet nuts from the bolts before finally lifting the toilet off the base.

    • 2). Use the edge of a putty knife to scrape off the old wax ring from the toilet's base. Wash off any leftover wax residue from the closet flange using a clean rag and mineral spirits.

    • 3). Put a reinforcement ring over the toilet's closet flange so the bolt slots on the flange and ring line up exactly. Use a pen to mark where the reinforcement ring's screw holes sit on the floor.

    • 4). Drill pilot holes where you marked with the pen using a drill and a 1/4-inch bit. Stop drilling once the bit contacts the subfloor. Coat the bottom of the reinforcement ring with bathroom caulk. Place the reinforcement ring back over the flange and drive screws through the ring's screw holes and into the floor. Use a rag to wipe off any caulk that spreads out between the ring and the flange.

    • 5). Press the flax side of a a wax ring onto the reinforcement ring and lower the toilet over the closet bolts and the wax ring. Sit on the toilet, without rocking it, until the bottom touches the bathroom's floor. Tighten the nuts on to the closet bolts while you are still sitting on the toilet. Press the caps back over the closet nuts and bolts. Use a wrench to reattach the water supply line to the valve body and turn the valve's handle counterclockwise until it stops.
