There are millions of people who would like to start their own business and become one of the many self employed workers in the world.
One of the main things stopping them is the fear of not having company-based health insurance.
What you need to know is that you can get health insurance for the self employed.
Many people do not want to go through the stress of finding it and applying for it when they know that, if they stay at their current job, they will have it provided for them.
Having to do a little bit of work should not stop you from fulfilling your dream of starting your own business.
There are a few different options for obtaining health insurance for the self employed.
What many families do is take on the insurance of the spouse who still is working in a traditional job.
This way they do not have to worry about finding their own insurance.
If this is not an option, whether it is because you are not married or your spouse does not work, there still are ways you can obtain insurance.
The first option you have is COBRA.
This only will work if you are leaving your current job.
You will be covered for up to 18 months and have the same coverage you had under your previous employer.
Once your 18 months are up, you will want to look for more permanent health insurance for the self employed.
There are two main options you can take.
They are HMOs and PPOs.
HMOs typically are less expensive but the downside is that you are more restricted as to what doctors you can see and what procedures will be covered.
Depending on how much money you are willing to work with when it comes to insurance, a PPO could be the best answer because you typically have very few restrictions.
If your main concern is saving money, though, you will want to use an HMO.
You will need to consider both options because there might be additional pros or cons with each that will help you make your decision.
After you have decided what type of coverage you would like with your health insurance for the self-employed, your next step is finding a provider.
You can do this a few different ways.
Many people find it is helpful to use the Internet for their searches because they are able to get better rates.
You also will want to take into consideration how many or how few complaints the company has received the past few years.
Researching is your best tool to finding a fit that is best for you and your family.
The good news is that once you find one, you will most likely never have to make the decision again! Don't let this little setback keep you from fulfilling your dreams as a business owner or entrepreneur.
