Hypno High - Recreational Drugs and the Hypnosis Alternative

Research has established that around 50% of all adults under the age of 40 have at least once in their lives indulged in the use of recreational drugs such as Marijuana, Speed, Ecstasy, MDMA, Cocaine, LSD, Psilocybin, Mushrooms (shrooms) and also some of the new designer drugs including Mephedrone, Ketamine, GHB, Methylone, 4-MEC, Canabinoids such K2 and JWH (various numbers), 2C-E(D and I) various MEOs and some of the latest addition to the designer drugs such as MEX or Methoxetamine, Butylone, MDPPP and 6-APB . The main reason for taking such drugs is having either euphoric, bonding and/or hallucinatory experiences.

Every recreational drug works in two ways, it either stimulates the release of certain neurotransmitters such as dopamine adrenaline, noradrenalin and serotonin and/or it changes certain brain functions whereby various senses are either stimulated or diminished, leading to altered perception of time, vision impairment, loss of concentration, body awareness (floating – K Hole) and sometimes altered heart/lung functions including palpitations and increased heart rate.

In effect the drugs themselves are only indirectly responsible for the physiological and psychological changes in the brain and the body, the drugs just stimulate the neurotransmitter release and the altering of brain functions. Neurotransmitter release and subsequent mild or extended euphoria is not restricted to the use of recreational drugs. Imbibing alcohol and eating certain foods, including sugars and substances such as chocolate also leads to mild feelings of euphoria whilst the nicotine, inhaled when smoking tobacco also releases dopamine. Psychological and physical changes due to external circumstances such as experiencing happiness because of achievement, job satisfaction, finding a suitable partner, falling on love, sexual intercourse and even such events as your favourite team scoring a goal, a touchdown of batting a six make the brain release neurotransmitters.

The dopamine and serotonin highs manifest themselves either by diminishing or extending reality. Taking mind expanding drugs is an example of reward seeing behaviour. The chemical recreational drugs create by far the strongest highs and euphoria and they are taken for the simple reason that we as humans are genetically predisposed to be seeking rewards and having a continuous craving to have the pleasure centres of our brains stimulated. If only we could find a way to make the brain produce dopamine and change brain functions that create euphoria without having to revert to using at times dangerous drugs because of chances of overdose or dilution with other and sometimes even poisonous substances that are a threat to the health of the users.

Drugs and hypnosis
On May 5th 2011, an IPhone App was released in the Apple Store called Hypno Highâ„¢ that uses hypnosis to recreate and relive previous recreational drug sessions. The recorded hypnosis audio session on the App, delivered by a qualified professional hypnotherapist, guides the user into a medium to deep trance and then takes him/her back to one of their previous indulgences in mind-altering substances. As a result, the experience is relived in full, both physically and mentally, only this time without the use of illegal drugs.

The brain is infinitely more advanced than most people think, for instance: at any time, it is possible to simply feel happy again as a result of a memory of a happy event in the past. Under hypnosis, it is possible to go much further: it is not only possible to remember, but also feel, and completely relive every great "high" and euphoric experience from the past that was the result of taking recreational drugs. The exact same physical and mental sensations can be recalled and re-experienced with the help of hypnosis, without suffering the bad physical aspects of drug use, such as drug hangovers, next-day fatigue, nausea, headaches, loss of appetite, sleeplessness and other post-use unpleasantness.

Hypno High™  is the brainchild of John Wesdorp, a Clinical Advanced Hypnotherapist and Neurolinguistic Programming Practitioner, who already has created online solutions for instant smoking cessation www.nosmokingagain.com and for weight loss www.hypnoweightband.com (uc).

According to him, this form of hypnosis is neither Stage Hypnosis nor Hypnotherapy, it is a merger of 21st century hypnosis techniques and cutting-edge mobile technology.

The use of Hypnosis is aimed at those who have used drugs before and want to relive one or more of their previous highs and every now and then want to experience those feelings of high and euphoria using the Hypno Highâ„¢ App.

The idea for the Hypno Highâ„¢ approach stems from an experience that John had with one of his hypnotherapy clients. During a regression session, the client went into a deep trance and recalled a particular event in her life that made a deep impression on her and that involved the use of recreational drugs and the hallucinating high that resulted from the use. John encouraged the woman under hypnosis to explore the circumstances and the feelings the drug session had invoked and the woman in question managed to recreate the full euphoric hallucinatory feeling under hypnosis without the use of drugs.

Further experiments with other former or existing drug users taught John that most people when brought into a hypnotic trance are capable of first remembering and then invoking previous drug induced highs. It seems that when people have used recreational drugs in the past, either recently or even many years ago, their brains have stored the memory of those experiences in exactly the same way as it has stored other memories related to events that made them happy, sad, nostalgic or other.

It works exactly the same as the notion that people can feel sad again or even cry because of the memory of a sad event in their past, or feel extremely happy again and release neurotransmitters just because of a memory. In case of thinking back to a happiness inducing event, people experience exactly the same physical and mental experience as when the original event occurred, simply because the brain does not distinguish between what is real and what is a memory.

After John realised that people who had been hypnotised responded very positively and some managed to improve on their former drug experiences and even stacked some together, the idea was born to create a vehicle to reach a mass market. A smart phone App seemed to be the right approach.

The result is Hypno High™ on IPhone, IPad and IPod costing US$4.99. (£2.99 - €3.99), versions for Android, BlackBerry and other mobile platforms have either been released or are being developed.

Hypnosis in every day life

Hypnosis is used every day in hospitals and clinics to assist people in overcoming for many problems and conditions such as:
  • Chronic pain conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis
  • Reduction of pain during childbirth
  • Reduction of the symptoms of dementia
  • Certain symptoms of ADHD
  • Reduction of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
  • Control of pain during dental procedures
  • Elimination or reduction of skin conditions including warts and psoriasis
  • Alleviation of symptoms association with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Weight loss
  • Confidence problems
  • and many others

Hypnosis creates a direct connection with a person's subconscious and is experienced as extremely relaxing. Contrary to popular belief all hypnosis is self hypnosis and therefore hypnosis cannot make people do things against their will. Your subconscious protects you from any possible harmful effects. There is not one single incident in medical other history where a person has suffered negative effects from being hypnotised. Hypnosis and its medical equivalent Hypnotherapy are completely harmless and is usually enjoyed by most.

Can everybody be hypnotised?
Most people certainly can be! (95% according to the WHO). Everybody has already been hypnotised many times or has hypnotised themselves by daydreaming. Self-hypnosis takes place every time people imagine something, because in order to imagine things, it is necessary to bypass their critical faculties. Daydreaming is also a form of hypnosis and we all daydream from time to time.

The only thing that stops hypnosis working properly is fear of the unknown. If people abandon that fear and their natural scepticism, hypnosis works extremely well and Hypno High does what it should do every time!
