Tafalla is a town in Navarre which is also near Pamplona, Spain. It is located approximately 21 miles to the south of Pamplona. Tafalla consists of both modern and medieval elements. There are modern buildings and shopping areas in the heart of the town but as you head to the mountains you will see more ancient structures that have been around since the medieval era. Here are a few of the places to see while visiting the beautiful town of Tafalla:

The Scenic Valleys Of Tafalla

When you head to the east of Tafalla, you will be amazed by the beauty of the Roncal Valley and the Salazar Valley. These two valleys are filled with scenic spots that attract a lot of tourists each year. In Salazar valley, you can visit the romantic village of Ochagavia where you can find the Nuestra Senora de Musquida, a Romanesque basilica built in the 13th century. For tourists who love sports they should visit Belagua and Isaba that offer lots of winter sports facilities. Moving on to Roncal, you will find the home of Gavarre, a famous opera singer as well as other ancient manors. Just a short distance from Yesa, is the San Salvador de Leyre monastery that sits atop a rock. It is where the archbishop resided during the Pyrrenee kingdom as well as the burial site of the kings.

The Way Of Saint James

The way of Saint James is filled with historical and cultural structures along its route. Located in Roncesvalles is the Chapel of the Holy Ghost or the Silo de Carlo Magno which is believed to have existed since the 12th century. The historic chapel sits atop a cave where some pilgrims were buried in the past. Nearby is the Chapel of Santiago with its historic bell tower that serves as a guide for pilgrims who have wandered off the trail during the winter. Also along the way of Saint James is the scenic village of Puente la Reina with its historic walls and its ancient bridge that was built in the 11th century. Viana is a town along the trail where the villa huren spanje is located. Borgia headed the army of Navarra in the past.

The Baztan Valley

Upon reaching the peak of the Baztan Valley, you will be able to see a panoramic view of the whole valley. As you climb to the top of the valley, you will come upon the town of Eliozondo which is located along the Baztan River where you will see magnificent manors and small castles.
