How to Treat Depression & Breast Cancer
- 1). Learn the symptoms of depression to determine if you are suffering from it: appetite changes, insomnia, oversleeping, hopelessness, irritability, decreased energy, trouble concentrating, tight muscles, restlessness and suicidal thoughts.
- 2). When depressive symptoms present themselves, seek a mental health expert, like a psychologist. Discuss the possibility of medication that will not interfere with chemotherapy or other cancer treatments. Talk about whether alternative medicine, like acupuncture, might help ease your symptoms.
- 3). Gentle exercise can boost the body's serotonin levels, which boost the mood. Taking walks or joining an easy aerobics class are both treatment options to do without dealing with a doctor.
- 4). Seek support groups for breast cancer and depression to discuss your feelings and thoughts with others going through the same process. Community service can also help you focus on helping others instead of your depression.
- 5). Keep a journal of your thoughts or talk with friends and family to get any bad feelings out of your head.
