The nursing profession is a draining profession when it comes to emotions.
There will be different kinds of emotions that you will feel in a span of a day.
It would be a good thing if the emotions are all positive but more often than not we feel negative emotions.
It can be draining on our part and it can start the burnout for us.
We want to give the best of us to our patients and colleagues, but what will happen if the energy is drained out of us and we cannot find a place to fill it up? BSN nurses can suffer from burnout so it is best to know the symptoms to know how to prevent it.
Some of the common symptoms of burnout are loss of appetite, sleeping difficulties, lethargic, unmotivated and less cheerful.
There are other symptoms but these are just some that can help you determine if you are already suffering from burnout.
Some preventive measures that you can do as BSN nurses are the following: Step Back Sometimes we have to step back and assess our situation.
BSN nurses will want to give the best patient care.
However, there will be times when we need to look deeply into our situation.
We need to find answers especially when we feel the symptoms of burnout.
Say What You Need to Say Letting it out or venting can help in unburdening ourselves.
It can be a way for a nurse to release some of the pent-up emotion you are feeling.
When this happens maybe the feeling that you might want to quit will lessen and you can continue on with what you are doing.
No Is an Answer Learning to say "no" especially if there is way too many things to be done can be a good way to relieve your stress.
Remember that nurses are human beings and not super heroes we cannot do everything so it is also best to choose things and not take all of it and make it your responsibility.
Keep Things in Perspective As sensitive people, we sometimes blame ourselves when things did not go as we planned.
But one must remember that not everything is within your control.
There might be deaths of your patients that you feel guilty about but this should not be the case because you cannot control this kind of situation.
These are just some preventive strategies that can help you save yourself from burnout.
