Treatment Of Arthritis By Drugs Analgesics: paracetamol, paracetamol with codeine, aspirin.
Function: is to decrease pain, and codeine relieves more severe pain.
Aspirin reduces both pain and inflammation.
Aspirin side-effects: can include deafness, abdominal pain, ulcers, ringing in the ears, tendency to bleed.
Paracetamol side-effects: can include dizziness, excitement, and after long term use liver damage.
Paracetamol with codeine side-effects: can include constipation, drowsiness, tiredness, dependency.
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): acemetacin, diflunisal, etodolac, flubiprofen, mefenmic acid, naproxen, amongst others.
Function: is to block production of prostaglandins.
Side-effects: can include abdominal pain and bleeding, indigestion, headaches, fluid retention, tinnitus, photosensitivity, amongst others.
Cyclo-Oxygenase 2 Inhibitors: rofecoxib.
Function: is to relieve pain by blocking inflammatory prostaglandins.
Side-effects: can include abdominal pain, nightmares, indigestion, dizziness, stomach ulcers, nausea.
Corticosteroids: cortisone acetate, dexamethasone, prednisolone amongst others.
Function: to reduce inflammation.
Side-effects: can include cataracts, hypertension, weight gain, thinning of the skin, weakened bones, elevated blood sugar, worsened arthritis, weakened immune system, amongst others.
Treatment Of Arthritis By Natural Remedies Cayenne Pepper:capsicum spp; contain capsaicin, a strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
This can be found in the ingredients of creams.
Chondroitin Sulfate: is also naturally found in the body.
Chondroitin helps to prevent other body enzymes from degrading the building blocks of joint cartilage.
Devils Claw:harpagophytum procumbens; contains iridoids that help reduce inflammation.
Feverfew:chrysanthemum parthenium; was originally used for the treatment of headache.
However, is now used in the treatment of 'rheumatoid arthritis'.
Ginger:zingiber officinale; is an herb with many benefits.
It is most commonly used for nausea and to help digestion.
It is known to stimulate the secretion of bile, and helps the liver remove toxins.
However, ginger contains gingerol which has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins.
Glucosamine: is a form of amino sugar that our bodies naturally manufacture.
It is considered one of the major building blocks for joint protection.
It is usually found in conjunction with Chondroitin Sulfate, and is widely used.
Joint Advance: is a proprietary blend of many proven joint protectors.
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane): provides sulfur, which is a vital building block of joints, cartilage, skin, hair and nails.
