Over the years investing has become more and more important, as the future of social security benefits becomes increasingly unknown.

People that are relying on retirement plans or social security benefits may be in for a shock when they no longer have the option or ability to earn a steady income. So these individuals will want to insure their financial future. Investing would probably the unknown persons answer.

You may be someone who has been saving money in a low interest savings account over a period of years, not really seeing it grow, and have now decided youd like to see it grow at a quicker pace. Or maybe you have come into a windfall, or inherited some money and want a way to grow that money. Again Investing would be the answer.

Depending on your financial goals, the type of investing you do will vary. Investing can be a way of acquiring the things that you may want, like a new home or car, a college education for your children.

If its fast money you are looking for, a higher risk investment would possibly be better suited for you, as they generally give a higher return in a shorter time period. But if you are investing for future plans such as retirement, a lesser risk safer investment that grows over time would probably be better.

The purpose of investing is to give one wealth and security, over time. Everyone must bear in mind that you will not always be able to earn an income and planning for the future using investments, would probably serve you well when you eventually want to retire.

You must also take into consideration that social security systems dont always do what you would expect or hope they would do, and as we have witnessed with Enron you cant always rely on your companies retirement plans either, so investing really is the key to insuring your own financial future. But always seek advice from a professional as you must make smart investments!
